JUST A KID FROM WICHITA

Since 2010, businessman, sports agent, and humanitarian DJ Fisher has dedicated the 1st Weekend in August to social service and responsibility. The weekend brings together the Wichita community and DJ’s celebrity, athletes and business colleagues. The weekend consistent of a youth basketball camp, adult skate night, cocktail party and VIP dinner.

ICT Weekend/Just A Kid From Wichita Weekend has not yet been recognized as an official city-wide event by the Wichita Mayor or local government, but it is our hopes that they will soon.

The Camp

Basketball has played a vital role in DJ’s life, bestowing on him precious life lessons and cementing meaningful friendships, apart from providing him with opportunities to travel the world. As he broadened his impact, he aimed to give back to his community by partnering with his clients, hometown heroes and other local talents. Together, they organized an exceptional and cost-effective basketball camp that would provide quality meals to motivate budding youth and their families.

Our Mission

The Just A Kid From Wichita™ is a distinguished program in the state of Kansas, committed to empowering young athletes through the sport of basketball while also emphasizing character development. Our program is supported by notable members of our community, who have played and coached in the NBA, WNBA, and Team USA Olympics. These individuals serve as inspirations for our participants, motivating them to strive for excellence both on and off the court.

We prioritize imparting valuable life lessons gained through skillfully engaging in the game of basketball. To ensure our participants have the necessary energy to focus and learn, we provide breakfast, snacks, and lunch throughout the day. We understand that many kids are not provided with quality meals, and it’s our priority to ensure that every child is able to fully engage and benefit from our program.
